Hello, this is a quick tutorial on how I installed windows on a Virtkick based platform.

  1. You will need to upload both your Windows.iso and virtio.iso to a webserver so Virtkick can access them.

  2. In the Virtkick admin panel, select "Distributions" on the left hand menu.

  3. Add a new OS and give it a name, I used "Windows"

  4. Add a version and give it a useful name, I used "Server 2012 R2 64Bit"

  5. Provide the URL of the ISO you uploaded, and a lowercase checksum of that ISO (Checksum tools can be found in google)

  6. Repeat steps 3-5 with the Virtio ISO

  7. Create a new VM and select the Windows OS you created in setp 3-4 (You may need to Shift+F5 to refresh available distributions)

  8. Go through the windows install until you get to the step to choose a disk (There will be nothing to choose anyway)

  9. In the Distribution dropdown, located bottom left of the console window, choose the VirtIO Distribution you added earlier.

  10. Choose "Load Driver" from the Windows Setup, and brows to the Virtio CDROM. This disk contains a bunch of folders, you will need to navigate to \viostor\2k12r2\amd64 and click ok.

  11. It will find a driver and allow you to click next, at this point a green progress bar will appear, and you need to change the Distribution back to the windows ISO.

  12. The disk should appear within a few minutes, any more then 5 and you'll have to start again.

  13. Complete the install.

  14. Ctrl+alt+del wont pass through for me so i cant access the login, but I'm sure its fine :)
